Radio Wave Travel Time

In this assignment you are to find how long it will take for a radio or television program to travel to your house.

1. What town do you live in?

2.Assume you are viewing a television program which is being broadcast from Athens, Greece. Make the simplifying assumption that the signal is traveling a straight line from the point of origin to your house. Use the pop up window to find the distance the signal will travel from the point of origin to your house. Record your answer in METERS. (Hint: If the popup window can't locate your town, try another which is larger and close).

3. Calculate the amount of time it will take for the signal to reach your house. Record your answer in SECONDS.

4. Considering that the moon is located 3.8 x108 meters away, how long would it would take for the signal to reach an astronaut on the moon? Record your answer in SECONDS.
